Optimal Feeder Reconfiguration and Placement of Voltage Regulators in Electrical Distribution Networks Using a Linear Mathematical Model

Power distribution systems face continuous challenges from increased demand and lengthening of feeders, resulting in power loss augmentation unacceptable voltage drops. Thus, to reduce technical losses improve the profile, common techniques such as reactive compensation, network reconfiguration, placing regulators are employed. Distribution reconfiguration (DNR) consists modifying system topology with aim minimizing losses, enhancing improving reliability. Optimal placement (OPVRs) improves profile helps losses. DNR OPVRs challenging optimization problems involving both integer decision variables. In this paper, a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is presented simultaneously solve radial networks. The combined optimal at minimization improvement profile. This approach has not been reported specialized literature. proposed MILP may be solved through commercially available software, obtaining global solutions lower computational effort than metaheuristic applied for same purpose. Several tests were conducted on three benchmark test demonstrate efficacy applicability approach.
